Kurdish

The Kurdish language is believed to have ancient origins, with roots reaching back thousands of years. This ancient language was spoken throughout a region called Kurdistan, which covered parts of what is today known as Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Armenia. The Kurdish language was an oral language until the 16th and 17th centuries, when Kurdish literature began to develop and expand.

Despite a rich linguistic history, the Kurdish language has faced challenges due to suppression attempts in the various regions that the language inhabits. Recently, however, promotion attempts have been made to revive Kurdish cultural identity, with preservation efforts centering education, media, literature, and other cultural initiatives.

Languages form from their specific contexts to describe specific ideas and phenomena. This means that different languages from different contexts may not be able to directly or easily describe concepts in a target language. Put another way, this is what makes direct translations often sound clunky, or what can make direct translations nearly incoherent.

In order to perform great translations, it is important to understand the culture and appropriate phrases in the target language in order to accurately convey the messaging in the original language. This ability is called cultural understanding, and it is the key to high quality, professional translations.
