Assamese

The exact roots and history of the Assamese language are unclear and not very well-documented. However, it is believed that it developed out of several Indo-Aryan languages. There are several instances of early Assamese languages scattered throughout literature, including Buddhist verses dated back to the 9th century.

We can see “Modern” Assamese begin to form with the interaction of British colonial occupation. Translation of the Bible introduced modern written Assamese, and post Indian independence, it gained recognition as an official language of both India and the state of Assam. Since then, the Assamese language has developed to reflect various new and evolving contexts that the language represents.

Languages aren’t born in dictionaries; they derive from distinct contexts that describe specific ideas and scenarios. This means that translations between languages can be difficult or even impossible in some cases. This is why direct translations can seem silly or even incoherent, and they’re certainly not appropriate for accurate branding or messaging.
This is what makes cultural understanding crucial in high quality and sincere translations. The right cultural understanding can make the difference between a poorly received messaging translation and branding that is received warmly in open arms.
