The Sudanese Arabic language is a variant of the Arabic language that is spoken in Sudan. It is estimated that there are around 40 million speakers of Sudanese Arabic worldwide with native speakers being mostly from central parts of Sudan and parts of Eritrea.
Sudanese Arabic is believed to have evolved from the Old North Arabian dialects after Arabs first arrived in Sudan between the 14th and 15th centuries. Arabs that came to Sudan influenced the language and culture; greatly shaping Sudan’s social system and dynamics.
Sudanese Arabic has a rich literary tradition, and many notable writers and poets have been associated with it.
